We resolve problems associated with oil-in-water and water-in-oil emulsions found in saltwater disposal and injection wells.
Every disposal and injection well has its own unique chemistry. However, all disposal and injection wells contain its own mixture of saltwater and crude oil which forms oil-in-water or water-in oil emulsions. Almost all crude oils emulsify when mixed with saltwater because they contain natural emulsion-stabilizing surfactants. This viscous emulsion is often highly resistant to treatment by chemical dispersants.
After the emulsions enter a pit or tank and cools, the hydrocarbon may transit between fluid, semi solid (gel,) or solid and a waxy crust often develops. These fluids and floating solids which are basically mixtures of oil, paraffin, and dirt (BS&W) are extremely difficult to break down making reclaiming sellable oil and transferring fluids very difficult and costly; if not impossible.
